Devils Re-Rate Checkin Written by Jeff Roberts - December 16th, 2022

I like to keep tabs on where my players are trending in terms of re-rates each season, which helps tells me who will be sticking around, and who I try to sell off to a GM that may not be paying attention (only half kidding here)

Through 27 games played, the Devils have racked up 102 goals, which is currently 5th in the league. The scoring however seems to be pretty even with only Marner and Sutter currently on pace for a 90+ scoring rate. Other than Hyman, the rest of the group is on pace to receive a less than 80 SC rate. Something I wrestle with each season is, should I max out my scoring sliders and try to rack up points for better re-rates, or continue to play a defensive game and try to win. This year I think this team can win, but if the wheels fall off, we'll definitly switch to a run and gun style to pump the stats.

Brandon Sutter - a CMHL Beast for as long as I have been around is on pace for a 95SC re-rate and  79PA re-rate, but it doesn't look like he'll be avialable next season due to his lack of NHL play over the last few years. I count myself lucky to have him this season as he was aquired for a push last season as a rental and the LO team granted him another year. Maybe he should get less ice time in place of guys I'll have next year? but thats the balance between re-rates and winning i mentioned above. For this reason, his re-rate doesn't really mean much

Mitch Marner - Marner got an NHL rerate last season, and despite having a great NHL seson, his CMHL stats are currently more appealing. (CMHL-92PA 95SC, NHL-97PA 81SC). With Marners top notch defensive rathing, he looks to be one of the CMHL's best (AGENTS DON'T READ THIS AS HE EXPIRES THIS SEASON). He's our star, so he'll be a Devil for a while, bu tI am a little worried how much more than $5M he's gonna cost.

Connor Brown - NHL Connor Brown is dealing with a long term injury, so Its unlikely he'll be in any postion to qualify for an NHL re-rate. He's currently on pave for a 94PA and 79SC in the CMHL, and while i'd like to see him up his goal totals, i'm certainly happy with him as he also brings a very strong defensive game.

Nic Dowd - This friggin guy has steadily improved year over year and shows no signs of slowing. Currently on pace for 92PA and 82SC with 2nd line minutes, he will be another that will likely command more salary than 990K he is currently making. When he started scoring his ratings were mid 60s two seasons ago, but as he scored more he was rewarded with more ice time, and its certainly paid off.

Zach Hyman - He's having a great year, and is on pace for a 84PA and 82SC. NHL Hyman is actually outpacing this however, as his NHL re-rate is on pace for 89PA and 87SC. He's currently the only candidate to use that token on. At least the NHL Oilers are good for sometihng.

Ryan Strome - He's piling up asists but just isn't scoring. I think this is fine, as he's on Pace for a 94PA, which is nothing to scoff at. Perhaps we juggle things to see if he can score more if we hit a rough patch, but he wasn't expected to shoot the lights out with his current 79SC rating. NHL strome hasn't done a lot in 31 games in Anahiem, so he's not in the running for a NHL re-rate at this time.

Mason Marchment - He was NHL re-rated last year after his breakout season in Florida, but despite playing with Hyman and Dowd, he is unlikely to keep the stats he has this year. He's also taken a step back in the NHL with a current pace of 69PA and 73SC. that won't be worth the token, where is CMHL pace is 69PA and 79SC. Likely a strong 3rd liner for us down the road.

Trevor Moore - He'll stay in the ICHF this season to receive the re-rate, but his hot start in LA has slowed and is only on pace for 69PA and 67SC. Likely a very stong 4th liner (if those double shifting rules change in the off season). if not he may be the one guy to single shift on the line if no one else is available.

Justin Danforth - He's currently in the ICHF until the cap bump, but he'll get some 4th line minutes with Sutter and Backlund to see if he can up his stats to secure a spot next year. He's got a 71 SC rating, which is an improvement overAlex Fortin's 55SC. He got 2 games in early in the season before the final UFA signings, but failed to make anything happen.

Obviously a lot can change, but I think we like where the re-rates are headed for next season and I would say all of these guys will be sticking around for next years squad. This is the full text of your article.
