Josh Brown Suspended Three Games Written by Bruce Garrioch - Ottawa Sun - October 22nd, 2022

Ottawa comes up short in an eventful 5-4 overtime loss.

This game had everything. The Senators found themselves down 1-0, close to mid-way through the second period, then chaos ensued.  The usually mild-mannered Josh Brown went after Detroit's Alec Martinez, seemingly stalking him, the length of the ice.  It was clear that Martinez didn't want any part of Brown but he simply had to defend himself and fought Brown to a draw.  Brown was assessed a Game Misconduct for Instigating a Fight, as well as a five minute Fighting Major.

This seemed to energize the Red Wings as they scored three unanswered goals, one on the Brown Major, to round out the second period.  You could sense the resignation in the crowd at the Air Canada Centre, down 4-0 going into the third.  The Senators scored a much needed, early goal by Tyler Motte at 1:41.  Alex Wennberg scored two quick goals, one at 4:32 and the other at 7:56, to make the score 4-3.  The comeback was on.  Ottawa's fourth line netted the equalizer with a goal by Devin Shore at 8:04.  "It felt good that our line was able to get that goal.  I was lucky to be in the right place, at the right time, for my first of the year.", Shore said after the game.

Detroit denyed the Senators of their first win, when Luke Glendening scored at 1:08 in overtime.

"It would have been nice to get our first win of the season, in our home opener, but we fell short.", GM Ray said shortly after the game.  "I admire the way our club fought back after being down 4-0 in the second.  What I am not pleased about is Josh Brown being so undiciplined.  We were in the game, down 1-0, then Josh's antics set them up with a five minute power play."

The league has suspended defenseman Josh Brown, three games.
