Mats Sundin will be staying in Detroit. Gm Kemmer announced that Mats Sundin signed a 2 year deal worth 6.5 million a year to stay with the Wings.

The deal included a no trade clause and would require Sundins approval of the deal should he be dealt.Sundin was brought to Detroit in a massive trade deadline night deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning.Mats Sundin,Sergei Gonchar,Tomas Vokoun,and Slava Kozlov were dealt to Detroit for Mike Modano,Sergei Zubov,Olaf Kolzig,and Alex Semin.Sundin played in 79 games last year for The Lightning,Red Wings,and the Stanley Cup Champions,New York Islanders.He recorded 39 goals and 42 assists for a total of 81 points.He scored 4 goals in 5 playoff games.He was also named team Captain this past offseason with the retirement of former Captain Mariusz Czerkawski.Sergei Gonchar and a player to be named will serve as Alternates.
