Promising season ahead for Sens fans! Written by Senators - November 30th, -0001
The Ottawa Senators made two big splashes on the trading market. With the Senators looking to acquire a powerplay defenseman to help out Marek.

Larouche made a surprise move. He dealt the oldest and seasoned veteran blue liner Philippe Boucher but the biggest surprise was club leader Jason Arnott shipped out as well. "I am just in shock. Bryan Murray called me this morning to break the news to me and wished me luck. I was excited about the new look Sens. However I look forward to playing well in San Jose." a distracted Arnott commented.

In return the Senators acquired the defenseman they wanted all along. Nick Boynton who is in Dave Tippett's eyes will be great to watch with the other hard nose defensemen Volchenkov and Eminger. Boynton picked up 51 pts last season with a crazy 348 hits. Only Pronger had more hits. Along with Nick the Sens acquired Michal Handzus who will be counted on to take some heat of Kopitar. Ottawa also sent a 7th round pick to the Sharks to also acquired young Adam Pineault who is projected to be a top six forward.

Later on the Senators struck a blockbuster deal with the New York Islanders. Making their way to Long Island are Rick DiPietro, young scoring sensations Alexander Frolov & Wojtek Wolski.

"We just knew that Rick was not going to enjoy splitting time with Razor. So my decision was that we needed to make a move tha tcould help us now and in the near future. I promised that changes were in order but that we would compete while getting younger. Rick and Alex will be missed and wish them well but just could not pass up the package we acquired. Wolski was lost in the shuffle and was too good to have on the farm. This deal was in the works for a long time and finally came together. Simon Gagne is a player I have always admired and could not pass up a chance to acquire him." an elated Larouche stated.

Gagne will be joined by Peter Budaj who stated he looked forward to playing along side Emery. Kyle Wellwood is another piece of the puzzle which adds strenght to the Senators. Wellwood can play all three positions on the forward line. So he adds flexibilty and talent to a great club.

Looking at the Senators it's safe that they are young and some will see that it could hurt them in the playoffs, if they are playoff bound. However these young players seem hungry and sometimes that is the best remedy to allow your team past the first round. One thing is for sure, the fans will surely be lifted out of their seats on most nights with the likes of Gagne, Tanguay, Kopitar & Cheechoo leading the way in scoring while they will enjoy the crushing and punishing hits that Volchenkov, Boynton and Eminger will serve. Finally they will get to see what Razor as to offer after suffering a playoff injury that some say cost the Senators the chance to advance. But with a healthy club and good young talent this club as plenty of time to come together to wreak havoc on clubs in the CMHL.

For the Ottawa Sun I am Phil McCracken.
